About stephanie
I am still learning. Challenge is something I embrace and fall into like running. I was a religious runner for 25 years, pounding pavement mile after mile, in every city I lived in. This process of patiently tapping the miles out reminds me of the process of drawing, creating and then coordinating the vision until it is done. Setting goals and achieving them with a lot of personal sacrifice. I was born into the construction business, it is a fast paced environment and the challenge is always real and different.
I am passionate, curious and extremely eager about life, I love involvement in any type of design project, collaboration with teams and other professionals. There is nothing I love more than the prospect of a new project, the chance to create a new environment specifically for an individual, a family or a business, and make it meaningful for them. Each project is about the vision for my client. It isn’t my own personal vision, but my vision to express them best. I tease my clients that design is mostly psychological and we are all going to learn a lot from the process. Part of my role as a designer is as a liaison between the client and the construction team. The most challenging part of this process is the balance between everyone involved and the time frames we have to achieve our vision. This has taken years of success and failure to understand how to maneuver through the waters of each project
My curiosity for custom design began while growing up with my house constantly under construction. There was no getting around my involvement of my dad’s skill to construct almost anything; it was like magic. He made us part of everything he did from measuring to space planning.
My first project was to design a bathroom by conversion of a closet. My dad taught me how to measure and draw it to scale . He took me to select tile at a local tile shop and told me “don’t worry about how much it costs, pick out what you love.” I still use this philosophy with my clients, it works because if you start with the concept and what someone loves, then it becomes a timeless part of life and it is appreciated for years to come.
